Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies (2-1) pitching staff had trouble keeping the ball in the park tonight as the Las Vegas 51s (1-2) used three homers to power their way to a 7-2 win Saturday night in front of 10,003 fans at Chukchansi Park. Fresno starter Alex White (L, 0-1) surrendered two of the long balls, while reliever Richard Rodriguez served up a towering two-run blast to Alex Castellanos in the fifth inning.
Unlike the night before, the Grizzlies bats went dormant tonight as it took until the fourth inning to scratch across a hit. Lucky for Fresno, left-handed 51s starter Darin Gorski overthrew first baseman Brandon Allen on a routine comebacker, allowing a run to score. Two batters later, LJ Hoes roped a RBI double to left center to cut the deficit to 4-2 and inject some hope of a comeback.
However, the Castellanos homer came in the top half of the fifth to erase any momentum for a comeback. From there on out, three 51s relievers combined to throw 4.0 scoreless innings to seal the win.
Fresno still has an opportunity to pick up a series win tomorrow at 2:05 p.m., when lefty Luis Cruz takes the hill against right-hander Tyler Pill. A unique connection is that Tyler Pill is the brother of former Fresno Grizzlies player Brett Pill. The Grizzlies will be giving away 2015 Magnet Schedules, courtesy of PG&E. There's also a ValleyPBS character appearance from Super WHY! and Woofster, who will both take photos with fans and be part of an on-field skit with Parker T. Bear. Gates open to the public at 1:05 p.m., with tickets available for as low as $8.
Through the first three games of the season, Fresno has drawn 31,636 fans (average of 10,545 per game).
