Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Dodgers held the Round Rock Express to three hits, securing their first shutout win of the season, 2-0, Sunday and winning their first series of 2015 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Dodgers won a third straight game to take their season-opening series, 3-1, against the Express in front of a crowd of 5,076.
Starting pitcher Mike Bolsinger held the Express to one hit and struck out nine over 6.0 innings in the win. Relievers Ryan Buchter, Sergio Santos and Josh Ravin held Round Rock to two hits over the final three frames.
Ravin earned his first save of the season and Oklahoma City's pitchers combined for a season-high 14 strikeouts, marking the third time in four games the Dodgers pitching staff recorded at least 10 strikeouts in a game.
Oklahoma City broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning.
Second baseman Darnell Sweeney led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a Chris Heisey groundout. Sweeney then scored on a sacrifice fly by Kiké Hernandez. Sunday marked the first time this season the OKC Dodgers grabbed the first lead of a game.
Oklahoma City loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning. Left fielder Scott Schebler drew a one-out walk. Right fielder Matt Carson and third baseman Buck Britton followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Catcher Ryan Ward then drew a walk to bring home Schebler for a 2-0 advantage.
Oklahoma City won a home series against the Express for the first time since Aug. 31 - Sept. 3, 2012.
Round Rock starting pitcher Alex Gonzalez was charged with the loss, allowing two runs (both earned), four hits, walked two and struck out three over 5.0 innings.
The OKC Dodgers continue their season-opening homestand Monday and open a four-game series against the Nashville Sounds at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
