Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Isotopes (67-56) backed Angel Castro's stellar outing with three home runs and seven doubles in a 13-2 rout of the Salt Lake Bees (70-53). It was the most extra base hits, ten, that Albuquerque has tallied in a game this season.
Justin Sellers (4-for-4, 3 R, 4 RBI, 2 2B, HR, BB) and Brian Barden (3-for-4, R, 4 RBI, 2 2B, HR) each doubled twice and homered while Chili Buss (3-for-5, 3 R, RBI, 2B) also doubled. Sellers leads the club with 26 two-baggers on the season.
Angel Castro (8-3, 3.48) was masterful against Salt Lake going seven innings for his second straight start earning the win. The righty put down the first seven batters he faced and struck out the side in the first. He also punched out his season-high nine hitters. His only blemish was a home run by Andy Marte in the sixth.
Onelki Garcia entered in the eighth for his first appearance since joining the Isotopes on August 11. The southpaw retired the side in order. Steve Smith finished the game tossing a one-run ninth.
The Isotopes broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning. After Chili Buss' singled to right, Justin Sellers lined a double into left field. Buss came in to score when a throw got away from third baseman Andy Marte. Brian Barden picked up Sellers and Matt Angle, who walked, with a double improving Albuquerque's lead to 3-0.
Elian Herrera led off the fifth with his seventh home run of the season. Following the second baseman's long ball, Albuquerque doubled four times bringing in four runs. Tony Gwynn Jr., Isotopes RBI-leader Chili Buss, Justin Sellers and Matt Angle each doubled in the frame. Buss took over the top spot in the Pacific Coast with 87 RBI on the year.
Brian Barden then drilled a two-run blast to cap the seven-run fifth inning. Albuquerque has recorded four consecutive multi-homer games and they have gone deep in six straight contests tying the team season high.
Justin Sellers homered for the second straight night, going deep in the seventh. He has connected for a long ball in three of the last four games. The Topes have hit ten home runs in the past four games.
Albuquerque and Salt Lake continue their four-game series tomorrow at 6:35 PM. Matt Palmer (6-5, 3.66) will be opposed by southpaw Dontrelle Willis (0-0, 0.00) of Salt Lake. Catch all of the game action on 610 AM "The Sports Animal".
