Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque (67-57) received strong pitching holding Salt Lake (71-53) to two runs but the offense mustered just four hits in a 2-0 loss.
With an out in the eighth and trailing by two runs, catcher Drew Butera doubled into left field for the Isotopes only extra base hit. He moved up to third base on a Matt Angle groundout. It was the first time since the second inning that an Isotopes base runner reached third. Alex Castellanos grounded out to end the threat.
The defense shined in the ninth when Matt Angle helped keep Salt Lake off the board. After catching a fly hit to left he doubled up John Hester straying too far off of first.
Eliezer Alfonzo recorded his first hit as an Isotope with two outs in the ninth after joining the Isotopes yesterday, August 12.
Matt Palmer (6-6, 3.63) allowed a run in the fourth and a run in the fifth and allowed seven overall hits suffering the loss. The righty went 5.2 innings walking two batters and striking out seven.
Onelki Garcia and Peter Moylan combined for an inning of work out of the bullpen. Garcia struck out the only batter he faced and Moylan set down both of his batters.
Brian Wilson continued his Major League rehab assignment entering the contest in the sixth inning for his third appearance. He did not allow a run over an inning and a third tossing 21 pitches, 12 for strikes. The righty allowed the first hit of his rehab stint. Wilson has fired 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen in three appearances and was perfect in his first two frames with the Isotopes.
Sean White tossed a scoreless two-thirds of an inning in the ninth allowing a hit. Javy Guerra then entered striking out the only batter he faced.
Dontrelle Willis (1-0, 0.00) earned the win in his first start of the season. He tossed six scoreless innings striking out five.
The Isotopes and Bees take the field tomorrow with the first pitch at 6:35 PM for game three of their four-game series. Southpaw Jonathan Sanchez (5-5, 4.63) will toe the rubber for Albuquerque against Salt Lake's righty Matt Shoemaker (9-13, 5.03). Catch all of the game action on 610 AM "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
