Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.- The Reno Aces prevailed 12-7 over the Nashville Sounds in an offensively-charged series opener Monday night at Aces Ballpark.
A six-run first inning propelled Reno to an early lead. The first four batters reached base for the Aces, and the club pushed across four runs with two outs.
After adding three more runs in the third, Reno seemed to have a comfortable 9-1 lead. The Sounds had a different idea, as they posted six runs across the next two frames to come within two, down 9-7.
Another three-run inning, this time in the seventh, gave Reno some breathing room and ultimately the win.
Five Aces batters had a multi-hit game, including Tyler Bortnick, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Chris Owings, who was celebrating his 22nd birthday, went 2-for-5 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and three RBI.
Reno starter Matt Wright did not factor into the decision, allowing five runs on four hits in 3.2 innings pitched. He had an RBI single in the first, and scored a run in the third after reaching on a fielder's choice.
Tony Sipp was credited with the win, throwing 2.0 shutout innings without a hit. Blayne Weller, who joined the club from Rookie Missoula today, was credited with a hold, after throwing a scoreless fifth frame.
The series continues tomorrow night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Mike Bolsinger (4-5, 4.01 ERA) will get the nod for Reno, while the Sounds will counter with RHP R.J. Seidel (2-4, 4.90 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
Tickets are available for tomorrow's game, and all remaining home games at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
