Chasers Cannot Climb out of Early Hole in 7-4 Loss

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (61-63) suffered their sixth loss in the last eight games as the Fresno Grizzlies (58-65) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first four innings, while the Omaha offense left three men in scoring position in the final three innings to fall 7-4. With Memphis splitting a doubleheader in Colorado Springs on the night, Omaha maintains a 1.0 game lead in the division.
Right-hander Felipe Paulino made his second appearance for the Storm Chasers as part of his Major League Rehab assignment, and in his 3.1 innings of work he allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two. In his two starts for Omaha, Paulino has given up a combined nine runs in 6.1 innings and has struck out six. The loss was the first taken by a MLB rehab pitcher for the Chasers this season in five total starts by Paulino and Danny Duffy.
The Fresno offense scored six of their seven runs in the game in the second through fourth innings, with nine of their 13 hits in the game coming during that span. The six runs were more than enough for Grizzlies starter Mitch Lively, who in his first appearance at Omaha allowed only two runs over six innings and struck out seven. In the last eight games the Chasers have only scored more than two runs off the opposing starter once during that span.
The only damage by the Omaha offense on Lively came on a two-out, two-RBI double by Max Ramirez in the fourth, plating his team-leading 53rd and 54th RBI on the season. The Chasers could not get any closer than a three-run deficit the rest of the way, with Quintin Berry tripling in a run in the seventh that was answered with a Grizzlies run in the eighth and Ben Broussard doubling in a run in the bottom of the frame that ended up being the final run of the night.
The Storm Chasers and Grizzlies will play a day game tomorrow at 12:05 p.m., and Omaha will send out young flamethrower Yordano Ventura (4-3, 3.62) who has only given up three earned runs in his last 20.0 innings while totaling 23 strikeouts. Ventura will face off with Grizzlies right-hander Yusmeiro Petit (5-5, 5.25).
