Zephyrs Hold off Vegas, Win 12-9

LAS VEGAS, NV - The New Orleans Zephyrs held off a late Las Vegas 51's rally to snap a three game losing streak and win the first game of the series 12-9.

Las Vegas scored first with a two run home run off the bat of Travis d'Arnaud in the first inning to take the lead. It was the first runs allowed by New Orleans starter Brian Flynn in his last three starts, a span of 21.2 innings pitched.

The Z's got a pair of doubles from Kyle Jensen and Jordan Brown in the second inning and scored three to take the lead. The Z's sent nine hitters to the plate in the third scoring six runs on five hits.

The Z's lead 10-2 when the 51's would start their comeback in the fifth inning. Vegas scored three in the fifth and sixth innings and pulled within 10-8.

The New Orleans offense was on fire pounding out 17 hits. Brown led the club with four hits in four at bats. Alex Burg had three hits including a grand-slam home run.

Flynn earned the win and Las Vegas starter Giancarlo Alvarado took the loss. Chris Hatcher pitched the final two innings to finish the game in a non-save situation.

The Z's improve to 61-62 on the season.

Game Notes - The Z's allowed a first inning run for the fourth consecutive game .... The Z's allowed a pinch-hit home run for the second time on the road-trip. Prior to the trip the Z's had not allowed a pinch hit home since May of 2012 in Reno.

Coming Up- The Zephyrs continue the road-trip Tuesday from Las Vegas at 9:05. New Orleans will start RH Robert Morey (1-0, 3.60) vs. 51's RH Jacob deGrom (4-2, 4.02). RADIO: WMTI 106.1 FM "The Ticket".
