Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn (Dec. 13, 2010) - The New York Islanders announced today that defenseman Dylan Reese and forward Rhett Rakhshani have been recalled from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. The Sound Tigers also announced Monday that they have released forward Trent Campbell from his professional tryout contract (PTO).
Reese's second call-up of the season comes on an emergency basis following the injury to defenseman Mark Eaton. Eaton is expected to miss the next one-to-two weeks with a groin injury suffered on Saturday night against the Atlanta Thrashers.
Reese, 26, has played in six games this season with the Islanders from Nov. 17 to Dec. 2. The Pittsburgh, PA, native leads all Sound Tigers defensemen in scoring this season with eight points (one goal, seven assists) in 17 games.
Reese made his National Hockey League debut with the Islanders last year during his third professional season, netting four points (two goals, two assists) in 19 games. After a four year collegiate career at Harvard University, Reese was drafted by the New York Rangers in the seventh round, 209th overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. The Islanders acquired the 6-1, 201-pound blue-liner in a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 1, 2010.
Rakhshani, 22, leads all Sound Tigers in goals (10), assists (14) and points (24) through the first 27 games of his rookie season. This marks the first NHL call-up of Rakhshani's career.
The Islanders drafted Rakhshani in the fourth round, 100th overall, of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Last year, during his senior campaign at Denver University, the 5-10, 190-pound native of Huntington Beach, CA, captained the Pioneers to a WCHA regular-season championship, a Gold Pan Trophy and a Wells Fargo Denver Cup Championship. Rakhshani was named a Hobey Baker Award Top-10 finalist, a Reebok First-Team West All-American, an Inside College Hockey First-Team All-American, and he was selected to the All-College Hockey News First Team, the All-USCHO Second Team and the All-WCHA First Team. He led Denver in overall scoring with a career-high 50 points (21g/29a).
Campbell, 27, returns to South Carolina after playing in 16 games with the Sound Tigers. The 5-10, 175-pound forward made his debut with the Sound Tigers on Nov. 11 at Charlotte and recorded one goal and one assist with Bridgeport. Campbell heads back to the Stingrays where he has tallied one goal and four assists in eight games this season.
