Amerks Release Del Monte, Pierce from Pro Tryouts

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that the club has released forwards Ryan Del Monte and Matt Pierce from their 25-game professional tryouts. The pair will return to the defending ECHL Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones, where they played under current Amerks Head Coach Chuck Weber last season.

Del Monte, 27, rejoins the Cyclones after spending the last two months in Rochester. In 21 American Hockey League contests with the Amerks this season, the 6-foot-0, 190-pound forward scored three goals and assisted on three others for six points, in addition to recording 25 penalty minutes. The Mississauga, Ontario, native also posted one assist and four penalty minutes in two games with Cincinnati prior to his promotion. Currently in his third professional season, Del Monte has compiled 87 points (29+58) in 152 career pro games, including 26 AHL contests with Lake Erie and Rochester.

Pierce, a 25-year-old second-year pro, was held scoreless in eight appearances this season with the Amerks after beginning the campaign with 11 points (4+7) in 15 games in Cincinnati. The former Mercyhurst College standout is coming off a banner year in 2009-10, leading the team in goals (28) and finishing fifth on the team in scoring with 50 points (28+22) to guide Cincinnati to its second ECHL title in three years. In his pro career, the Arnprior, Ontario, native has skated in 87 games, recording 63 points (32+31) and 38 penalty minutes. Pierce, along with Del Monte, attended Amerks training camp prior to the start of the season.

The Amerks remain at home on Tuesday, December 14th as the Abbotsford Heat journey cross-country for their first appearance this season at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:05 p.m. North Division contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. The game will also be shown live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Channel 26.
