Admirals Get Some Rest This Week

OVERALL...The Admirals enter this week's action with a 15-8-2-4 record and 36 points, which is good for a third place tie with Texas in a tightly packed West Division where second through sixth place is separated by just four points. After playing four games in five night last week and going on the road for 13 of their last 17 games, the Admirals have an easy week on the schedule front with just two games. The Ads host Lake Erie on Friday, their only inter-divisional game in their next seven, and then travel to Chicago on Saturday evening.

LAST WEEK...The Admirals started the week with a 3-2 loss to Grand Rapids at the Van Andel Arena, their second consecutive loss to the Griffins. Teemu Laakso and Ryan Thang scored for the Admirals while Jeremy Smith made 20 saves in the loss. On Friday night the Admirals rallied from a 2-0 deficit for a 4-3 shoot-out win over Rockford. Jamie Lundmark scored the game-tying goal with just 1:21 to play in the game and then in the seventh round of the shootout Roman Josi converted for the Ads, while Chet Pickard denied Rob Klinkhammer to give the Ads the win. Linus Klasen and Jon Blum also scored for Milwaukee. Then Saturday night the Admirals put together another third-period comeback, tying the game at two on Gabriel Bourque's fourth of the year with less than four minutes to play, but lost in OT when Travis Morin scored 17 seconds into the extra frame. On Sunday Mark Santorelli scored in the second period Chris Mueller lit the lamp in the third to pull Milwaukee past Oklahoma City 2-1. Jeremy Smith turned aside 23 of 24 shots to pick up his fourth win of the year and first on home ice.

WORKING OVERTIME...The Admirals are 29 games into the season and already ten of them, including two last weekend, have need more than 60 minutes to determine a winner. Milwaukee, which is tied for the most overtime/shoot-out games in the league, is 1-2 in OT decisions and 3-4 in shoot-outs. Plus, in three of their seven shoot-out contests extra shooters were needed. Last Sunday the Ads got their only OT win of the season, with a 5-4 decision in Peoria. The Admirals have now played 502 overtime or shoot-out games in franchise history.

QUICK ENDINGS...When Travis Morin scored just 17 seconds into overtime Saturday night it marked the quickest home OT loss in franchise history, breaking the previous record of 25 seconds set by Jim Burton of the Fort Wayne Komets on January 2, 1987. The club record for quickest overtime defeat is 16 seconds, established on January 8, 2009 when Joel Perrault lit the lamp for San Antonio in a 2-1 Rampage win. Conversely, the quickest win for the Admirals in extra time is just nine seconds, set by Timofei Shishkanov on December 27, 2005 in a 4-3 victory over Peoria.

GETTING OUTSHOT...In two of their past four games it took the Admirals over ten minutes to record their first shot of the game, including Sunday's 2-1 win over Oklahoma City. In their last 17 games the Ads have outshot their opponent just one time, and they are averaging being outshot 31.5 to 26.3 in those games. On Wednesday night the Admirals didn't register a shot until the 17:55 mark of the first when Ryan Thang tied the score at one. On the year Milwaukee has posted a 10-6-1-3 mark when they have been outshot, and a 4-1-1-1 record while posting more shots than the other team.

THE FIRST TIME...Thang's goal on Wednesday night was his first of the year and also the first of his professional career. The Edina, MN native tallied three goals in 12 games for the Admirals at the end of last season when he signed an amateur try-out contract following the completion of his senior college season at Notre Dame. In four seasons with the Fighting Irish, Thang totaled 115 points (57g-58a) and helped the team to the NCAA Championship game in 2008.

DO THE BARTMAN...Admirals forward Mike Bartlett tallied assists on each of the team's goals Saturday night, the first time as an Admiral that he has recorded a multi-point game and he now shows six points (3g-3a) in 21 games this year. Last week Bartlett posted goals in back-to-back games, the first time in the Notre Dame alum's pro career that he has scored a goal in consecutive contests. Bartlett spent last season with Lake Erie where he notched 10 points (6g-4a), before he joined the Ads for four playoff games.

ITS MUELLER TIME...Admirals forward Chris Mueller continued to have the hot hand for the Admirals, assisting on Milwaukee first goal and then adding the game-winner in third period in the team's 2-1 win over Oklahoma City on Sunday afternoon. In his last 16 games the Michigan State alum has totaled 17 points on 11 goals and six assists, including three short-handed tallies. Mueller is just one goal shy of setting a career best in goals (13), which he established last season in 67 games with the Admirals.
