Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - An early offensive outburst gave the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (55-49, 19-12) a lead they never relinquished as they vanquished the Buffalo Bisons (53-53, 19-12) by a final of 5-4 on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The scoring began in the second for the IronPigs. With one out Scott Kingery walked and Rafael Marchan then doubled him to third. One out later, Jim Haley singled them both home to give the IronPigs a 2-0 lead.
The IronPigs doubled the lead the very next frame in the third. Weston Wilson singled to start the frame and Kody Clemens then walked. Aramis Garcia ripped a double into the leftfield corner, plating both runners, to make it 4-0.
Darick Hall extended the lead to 5-0 with a solo homer in the fifth, his fourth of the season.
The Bisons started to claw their way back in the sixth. Nathan Lukes doubled to open the inning and Rafael Lantigua followed with one of his own to drive him in. Later in the frame with two outs, Luis De Los Santos singled to drive in Lantigua to cut the IronPigs lead to 5-2.
In the eighth, Lantigua walked and Spencer Hortwitz followed with a single, advancing him to third. Orelvis Martinez then drove in Lantigua with a sacrifice fly to make it 5-3.
Luis De Los Santos led off the ninth with a solo homer for Buffalo to make it a one-run game, but Ben Bowden (S, 4) retired the next three batters, striking out Cam Eden to end the game and secure the 5-4 win for the IronPigs.
Nick Nelson (4-2) earned the victory for the IronPigs, going six frames and allowing two runs on four hits and four walks, striking out three.
Jimmy Robbins (0-1) suffered the loss for the Bisons as he was tagged with five runs on seven hits and five walks, striking out four.
