Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Worcester, Massachusetts - After erasing a 7-0 deficit, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (20-21) couldn't hold on late, succumbing to the Worcester Red Sox (21-21) by a final score of 10-9 on Thursday night at Polar Park.
Worcester plated five in the first inning all coming with two out. Bobby Dalbec drove in a run with an infield single before Ryan Fitzgerald and Daniel Palka each plated two with singles of their own.
Two more came in the for the WooSox in the second as Jorge Alfaro roped an RBI double and Dalbec collected his second RBI single in as many innings.
The IronPigs hit the comeback trail in the fourth. Scott Kingery blasted a two-run homer, his fifth of the season, before Jim Haley hit another two-run shot, his third, to cut the deficit to 7-4.
Alfaro extended the WooSox lead back out to 8-4 with a solo homer, his fifth, leading off the bottom of the fourth.
The IronPigs got that run right back as Weston Wilson returned the favor with a leadoff homer to begin the fifth, his 11th of the season.
The IronPigs rallied all the way back in the seventh without a hit. After three walks loaded the bases to open the inning, Drew Ellis drove in a run with a fielder's choice. After a strikeout, Ellis stole second and a subsequent error on a Jordan Qsar groundball allowed two runs to score, including Ellis as the tying run with the score now 8-8.
Jake Cave came through with an RBI double in the eighth to vault the IronPigs ahead for the first time, 9-8, but a win was not meant to be.
David Hamilton homered to open the bottom of the eighth to tie the game for Worcester, his ninth of the year, before Dalbec drove in the winning run with a double.
