Big Inning Sinks Iowa

Iowa Cubs News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Iowa Cubs (23-16) gave up six runs in the third inning, dropping game three to the Indianapolis Indians (20-21) by a score of 10-5, Thursday at Victory Field.

Indianapolis scored a run in the first inning on a double play, but Iowa didn't trail for long, scoring runs on two ground outs in the second to go up 2-1. They held their one-run lead until the fourth, when the Indians got a run on an RBI single by Malcom Nunez.

Two runs is all Javier Assad would allow, as he surrendered four hits and three walks while striking out five in his 4.0 innings of work. Jake Slaughter got the I-Cubs back in front on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning, but that was the last lead they would hold.

Iowa's bullpen entered the game with a 3-2 lead, but walked five batters and allowed three singles in the fifth inning alone. Two of the five walks came with the bases loaded to bring in two runs, while both Nunez and Chavez Young had two-run singles.

Up 8-3, Indianapolis got RBI doubles from Vinny Capra in the seventh and Endy Rodriguez in the eighth to extend their lead to 10-3. Iowa scored two runs in the ninth inning on a bases loaded hit batter and an RBI single from Darius Hill, but that is all they would score as they lost 10-5.

POSTGAME NOTES:

Today was Iowa's first loss on a Thursday this year. They entered today's game with a 7-0 record on Thursday's, going 3-0 at home and 4-0 on the road.
