IronPigs Blank Tribe in Road-Trip Opener
June 4, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
ALLENTOWN, PA -- The Indianapolis Indians opened up a seven-game road trip on Thursday evening, but the Lehigh Valley IronPigs spoiled it by shutting out the Tribe, 8-0. Anthony Vasquez pitched into the eighth inning and drove home two runs at the plate. Former Indians infielder Chris McGuiness plated two runs and reached base twice.
Vasquez (3-1) was coming off an eight-inning, shutout performance in Charlotte and continued that momentum Thursday night. He went 7 2-3 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four batters. Wilfredo Boscan (2-2) took the loss after allowing five runs in five innings.
The Lehigh Valley offense did their scoring in bunches, highlighted by McGuiness' two-run single in the first, Vasquez's hit in the third, and a two-run double by Tyler Henson in the eighth frame.
Despite the loss, the Indians (32-23) continue to lead the International League's West Division. Lehigh Valley (21-34) emerged victorious for the first time this season against the Indians, as the Tribe swept a three-game series from the IronPigs at Victory Field to open the month of May.
