June 4, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Anthony Vasquez (3-1) tossed 7.2 shutout innings to lift the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (21-34) to an 8-0 victory over the Indianapolis Indians (32-23) on Thursday night.
Vasquez gave up just three hits over the 7.2 IP while walking three and fanning four.
Lehigh Valley posted three runs in the home half of the first to take a 3-0 lead. Chris McGuiness delivered a two-run single in the inning and Brian Bogusevic (2-5, RBI, R) extended his hitting streak to eight games with an RBI single to drive home a run.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the third, Vasquez (2-2, 2 RBI, sac bunt) helped his own cause with a two-run bloop single to extend the Lehigh Valley lead to 5-0.
All five runs were charged to Indians starter Wilfredo Boscan (2-2) who allowed the five runs on seven hits while walking three and fanning five over five innings of work.
Vasquez was pulled after issuing a walk to Pedro Florimon with two outs in the seventh. Florimon stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error charged to Pigs catcher Gabriel Lino. RHP Seth Rosin (1.1 IP, H) came on in relief and got pinch-hitter Elias Diaz to ground to second and end the threat. Rosin got the final four outs to preserve the win for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
The IronPigs added three runs in the eighth to open up an 8-0 advantage. Lino poked a leadoff single to center, moved to second on a walk issued to Cord Phelps and scored on Russ Canzler's RBI double. Two batters later, Tyler Henson (2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, SB, R) brought home Phelps and Canzler with a two-run double.
The series continues on Friday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Jason Berken (3-2, 3.89) gets the start for the Pigs against Indianapolis RHP Casey Sadler (4-3, 3.22).
