
INF Carlos Mendoza placed on the Disabled List retroactive to 7/12

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that INF Carlos Mendoza has been placed on the Disabled List retroactive to July 12th. INF Ramiro Pena has been activated from the Temporary Inactive List after participating in yesterday's Futures Game at Yankee Stadium.
Mendoza has a .279 BA with 12 RBI in 28 G for the Thunder this season. He hit .210 with 13 doubles and 17 RBI in 84 G with Trenton in 2007. He had his contract purchased by the Yankees 8/12/06, and played 31 G that season for Tampa. He was re-signed by the Yankees as a free agent on 11/2/06. He has previous Eastern League experience with Norwich in 2003. He made his professional debut in the Giants' Organization in 1997.
Pena went 0 x 1 in the Futures Game with a walk. The World Team defeated the United States Team 3-0. Pena is hitting .272 in 82 G with two home runs and 38 RBI this season for Trenton. During the month of June, he had a .305 BA in 26 games with one home run and 12 RBI. During 2007, Pena hit .252 with 10 RBI in 52 games. He also appeared in 26 games for the Thunder in the 2006 season. He had a .198 in 26 G with 6 RBI. He was signed by the Yankees as a free agent on 2/18/05.
Trenton plays the final game of a four-game series this afternoon against the Binghamton Mets, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets, at Waterfront Park. Game time is set for 12:05 P.M. RHP Brian Bruney (0-1, 6.75) will be making a rehab start for the Thunder courtesy of St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceville, NJ. He will be opposed by RHP Tobi Stoner (0-3, 6.75).
