New Hampshire found the scoreboard first in the second inning when David Smith singled home J.P. Arencibia from third base to make it 1-0, New Hampshire.

The Defenders answered the call in the bottom of the third. Ryan Rohlinger drew a one-out walk and Olmo Rosario let loose on a belt-high fastball as he drove it over the left-center field fence. At the end of the third, it was 2-1 Connecticut.

In the home half of the fourth Ben Copeland launched a solo shot over the right field fence to push the Defenders' lead to 3-1.
