READING, PA - Luis Perdomo gave up a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth, but Akron responded to score three times in the top of the ninth and defeat Reading 5-3 before 8,271 fans at FirstEnergy Stadium Monday. The Aeros head to the All-Star break 61-35 and 6.5 games in front in the Southern Division, while Reading fell to 39-56.
Ryan Goleski started the winning rally with a one-out double to left-center, and Josh Rodriguez brought him home when his single to right just barely slipped last a diving Luke Appert. After Chris de la Cruz walked, Bronson Sardinha delivered the game-winning runs on a single to center.
T.J. Burton (2-2) earned the win with two-thirds of an inning of relief, while Reading's Sam Walls (0-1) allowed the final three runs in the ninth. Wisconsin native Scott Roehl notched his fourth save of the year. Rodriguez finished 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Sardinha was 2-4 with a walk. Brandon Chaves opened the scoring in the top of third, launching a solo home run to right (his second homer of the season).
The Aeros are off for the next two nights before returning home to open a four-game series with Erie at 7:05 p.m. Thursday. It will be another Thirsty Thursday at Canal Park, with $1, 12-ounce fountain drinks available from the time gates open at 6 p.m. until the end of the third inning.
