Indy Sweeps Herd with 2-1 Win
May 27, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Indianapolis Indians brought their brooms to Buffalo.
The I-Tribe completed their first three-game sweep of the Bisons since 1995, besting the Herd 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon from Coca-Cola Field. The defeat is a fourth straight for Buffalo, dropping them below the .500-mark at 23-24.
Indianapolis doubled up the Bisons in each game of the series, with victories of 8-4 and 10-5 earlier in the week. The last time Indy swept the Herd the teams played in the American Association, June 9-11, 1995.
Wednesday's affair, however, was a much better pitched contest than the previous two. Buffalo's Daniel Norris worked into the seventh inning and allowed just two runs on seven hits while Indy's Chris Volstad allowed just one tally on five hits in his 6.1 innings of work.
The final hit allowed by Norris was the game winner. After Indy second baseman Alen Hanson walked to open the seventh, he was sacrificed to second base and came around to snap a 1-1 tie on Steve Lombardozzi's single to centerfield.
The Bisons offense seemed stuck in first gear on a sunny afternoon. The Herd got the leadoff man on base seven times, but only scored when Munenori Kawasaki doubled in the third inning and scored on a sacrifice fly from rehabbing Blue Jays catcher, Dioner Navarro. None of the four leadoff walks drawn by the Bisons on the day resulted in a run.
The Bisons bullpen kept the team in the contest as Gregory Infante and Bo Schultz continued their excellent work of late. Infante struck out two of the five batters he set down in his eight consecutive scoreless outing. Schultz benefitted from a slick glove-flip doubleplay from Jonathan Diaz to work out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth, his fifth straight scoreless appearance.
The Bisons are off on Thursday and will host the Rochester Red Wings for a single-admission fridaynightbash! doubleheader on Friday (5:35 p.m.).
