
Pigs Drop Series Opener to Braves, 8-2

In a game that took three days to complete due to rain, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (18-28) fell to the Gwinnett Braves (20-25) by a score of 8-2 on Wednesday evening.
The Braves took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a trio of runs that were charged to Pigs starter Anthony Vasquez. Sean Kazmar drove in the first run of the game on Monday with an RBI double. When the game finally resumed this evening, Barrett Kleinknecht delivered an RBI single and the next batter, Braeden Schlehuber grounded into a 4-6-3 double play which allowed Kazmar to score.
Vasquez (1-1) was dealt the loss as he allowed the three runs on three hits while fanning a pair over one plus inning of work.
In the top of the third, Chase d'Arnaud led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a single and scored on Domonic Brown's (2-4, RBI) RBI groundout to bring home the first run of the game for the Pigs and cut the lead to 3-1.
Gwinnett extended the lead to 5-1 with a pair of runs in the third as Adonis Garcia and Cedric Hunter each plated a run with back-to-back RBI singles.
Both runs in the fourth were charged to Pigs RHP Tyler Knigge (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, ER, K) who was on the mound when the game resumed after a 48-hour delay.
RHP Chien-Ming Wang (2-4) earned the win for the Braves as he started the resumption of the suspended game and allowed two run on nine hits to go along with a walk and two strikeouts over seven innings of work. RHP Matt Wisler (2.0 IP, 2 H, K) had initially started the game for Gwinnett on Monday night.
Eury Perez gave the Braves a 6-1 lead in the fourth with an RBI single to score Kleinknecht.
In the home half of the sixth, Kleinknecht made it 8-1 Gwinnett with a two-run shot, his third of the season.
RHP Chris Leroux (3.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K) tossed three innings out of the bullpen for Lehigh Valley.
Cody Asche (3-4, HR, RBI, R) hit his first home run of the season for the IronPigs to cut the deficit to 8-2 in the top of the eighth.
RHP Hector Neris (2.0 IP, H, 3 K) fired a pair of scoreless frames for the Pigs.
Game two of the series is scheduled to start around 7:30 p.m. EST as LHP Joely Rodriguez (2-3, 5.18) goes for the Pigs against Gwinnett RHP Sugar Ray Marimon (2-2, 4.05). The game will be seven innings.
