Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Hens took the field behind a new face Wednesday night in Louisville, as Derek Hankins made his first start of the season for the Hens after recently being called up from (AA) Erie. Hankins isn't unfamiliar to Hens fans, as he played a significant role in the 2014 Mud Hens pitching staff , finishing with a 7-14 record and a 5.15 ERA. However, Hankins night would not last long in his AAA return as the Bats' offense exploded from the get go, getting things rolling for their club who sat at an even .500 record (23-23) heading into the night's action.

In the bottom of the first Hankins would surrender a sharp single to Louisville's Ivan De Jesus, followed by walks to Irving Falu, and Eugenio Suarez. The bases loaded threat gave way to a Yorman Rodriguez single to right , scoring De Jesus along with both Falu and Suarez on an errant throw from Toledo's Steven Moya. The Bats would add to their lead in the 2nd plating two more runs, and headed into the third with a commanding 5-0 lead.

Hankins' early night would end in the third frame after Louisville's Chris Dominguez launched a three run home run into the seats bringing around Eugenio Suarez and Yorman Rodriguez and extending the already large lead . Hankins early exit would give way to the Hen pen, as four different Toledo hurlers took the ball looking to settle down the fiesty Louisville offense. Hen's first baseman even took a stab at the mop up role in the eighth, successfully setting down the Bats' in order.

The Hens had a quiet night at the dish putting together just four total hits. One of the four knocks however came in the form of a of Steven Moya (4) home run, plating Brendan Harris and putting up what would be the only two runs of the game for Toledo. Moya continues to remain hot at the plate for the Hens, extending his hit streak to three games and pushing his batting average to .252 in the month of May.

The Hens look to get back to their winning ways on Thursday night against the first place Indianapolis Indians. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm at Victory Field.
