Rochester Red Wings News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Rochester Red Wings scored six runs with two outs, including four in the fourth inning, to knock off the Durham Bulls 8-2 Wednesday afternoon while avoiding a three-game sweep at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The fourth inning for the Red Wings (26-21) started harmlessly against Bulls (26-23) starter Everett Teaford (3-4). Kennys Vargas and Josmil Pinto both grounded out to start the frame for the first two outs. Danny Ortiz doubled, Jose Martinez doubled in Ortiz, Wilkin Ramirez singled moving Martinez to third, Doug Bernier drove in both with a double, Argenis Diaz walked and Reynaldo Rodriguez followed with a double to score Bernier giving Rochester a four-run inning.
Teaford gave up six runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings of work.
That gave Rochester a 6-0 advantage following a sacrifice fly by Oswaldo Arcia and an RBI double by Vargas in the first inning. That was more than enough support for Taylor Rogers (4-3), who entered Wednesday having allowed at least three runs in four of his last five starts. Durham scored both its runs in the fourth after a J.P. Arencibia RBI single and a double play that plated one.
Pinto added a two-run homer in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Rogers needed just 86 pitches to get through seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Rehabbing Casey Fien worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning with a couple of punch outs and A.J. Achter tossed a scoreless ninth with a pair of swinging strikeouts to close out the win.
Martinez went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored while eight of the nine starters scored a run. Rehabbing Arcia played five innings in left field, finishing 0-for-2 with a sacrifice fly.
