Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Christopher Bostick cranked a two-run homer in the eighth inning, but Indianapolis' rally fell short with an 8-6 loss to the Columbus Clippers Friday night at Victory Field. The visitors used a three-run fourth and five-run fifth inning to take the series opener.

Columbus (16-17) sent nine batters to the plate in consecutive innings to overcome a 3-0 deficit. Brandon Barnes recorded his first of four RBI in the game with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to tie the game at three.

One inning later, Barnes busted open a 5-3 advantage for the Clippers with a three-run double to the alley in left-center off Damien Magnifico.

Indianapolis (16-16) battled back against Cole Sulser in the eighth thanks to a Kevin Newman run-scoring single and Bostick's opposite-field blast.

Ben Taylor worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save, dropping Indy back to .500.

The Tribe out-hit the Clippers, 14-10, but just three of their hits went for extra bases. Indy fell to 8-14 when having four or fewer extra-base hits in a game this season.

Indy grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first as four straight batters - Austin Meadows, Jordan Luplow, Kevin Kramer and Jacob Stallings - all reached with two outs, the latter two each plating runs with their RBI knocks to right field. Kramer added another RBI single in the third before Columbus hung all eight of its runs in the next two innings.

Clay Holmes (L, 1-2) suffered his second straight loss at The Vic, surrendering seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and four walks in 4.1 innings pitched. He struck out four.

Stephen Fife (W, 2-3) earned the win for Columbus, despite allowing 11 hits in his 5.2 innings of three-run ball.

The Indians and Clippers meet again Saturday, May 12, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET. The Indians will send Joe Musgrove (MLB rehab) to the bump, opposite Clippers lefty Adam Wilk (1-2, 4.11).
