Pigs Extend Winning Streak to Five Games
May 11, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
One swing of the bat was the difference Friday when the Lehigh Valley IronPigs downed the Buffalo Bisons at Coca-Cola Park 3-0. The victory extends the IronPigs' winning streak to a season-best five games and keeps the team atop the International League's North Division.
While it seemed that a pitcher's duel was brewing between Ben Lively (1-0) and Ryan Borucki, Collin Cowgill broke the game open with a three-run home run in the third inning. The two pitchers cruised into the 6th inning when Jake Waguspack replaced Lively on the mound. Lively and Waguspack combined to retire 15 consecutive Bisons from the second through seventh innings. Waguspack's performance earned him a rare four-inning save, his first in Triple-A.
Borucki (2-4) settled back in and pitched around a sixth-inning Cowgill double to keep the Pigs from adding to their lead.
Cowgill was the offensive leader for Lehigh Valley with his 2-for-3 performance. Dean Anna and Trevor Plouffe had the Pigs' other two hits.
The Pigs are back in action Saturday at Coca-Cola Park when they look to win the series against Buffalo and extend their winning streak to six games. It's Star Wars Night at Coca-Cola Park featuring a many Star Wars-themed activities, including Jedi training, and the season's first Saturday night fireworks display. First Pitch is scheduled for 6:35 when Cole Irvin takes the mound.
The 2018 Season is the IronPigs' 11th season at Coca-Cola Park and 11th as the top affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Fans can get closer to the team than ever before with a Bacon, USA membership -- a year-round IronPigs experience pass featuring numerous amenities such as savings on parking at games and at the Majestic Clubhouse Store at Coca-Cola Park, on-field VIP access to watch batting practice, access to the annual holiday party, and more.
