
Chiefs Fall to PawSox, 12-2

Syracuse, NY - The Pawtucket Red Sox scored eight runs in the first inning en route to a 12-2 victory over the Syracuse Chiefs on Friday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Jacob Wilson had two doubles in the game for Syracuse, extending his on-base streak to six games.
Pawtucket (16-16) roared out to an 8-0 lead after one inning against Austin Voth. Tzu-Wei Lin started the game reaching on an error on the second baseman Matt Reynolds and Aneury Tavarez walked. After a strikeout, Mike Olt singled to left to score Lin for a 1-0 lead. After a walk, the PawSox posted five consecutive hits. Ramon Flores singled home Tavarez for a 2-0 edge. Ivan De Jesus, Jr. then doubled to the right-field corner to plate two more runs. Dan Butler followed with a single over the bag at third, to bring in Flores and De Jesus. After another single, the Chiefs turned to Christopher Smith, who allowed Lin to double to right field to plate another two runs and cap the eight-run first inning.
Syracuse (16-16) scored its first run in the bottom of the second. With one out, Matt Hague singled. Then, Wilson doubled, moving Hague to third base. Hague scored on an Irving Falu groundout to first to cut the Pawtucket lead to 8-1.
The Red Sox added runs in the third, sixth, and seventh innings. Rusney Castillo had sacrifice fly in the third that scored Jantzen Witte for a 9-1 Pawtucket advantage. In the sixth, Flores hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Castillo to make it a 10-1 ballgame. In the top of the seventh, Castillo singled with the bases loaded to score Witte and push the Pawtucket edge to ten, 11-1.
The Chiefs scored again in the bottom of the seventh. Tuffy Gosewisch and Hunter Jones both walked to put runners on first and second. Rafael Bautista followed with a single that allowed Gosewisch to score because of an errant throw to first that trimmed the Syracuse deficit to nine, 11-2.
Pawtucket put the exclamation point on their night in the ninth. With one out, Tavarez tripled to the left-field corner. Castillo followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Tavarez for a 12-2 lead.
Syracuse and Pawtucket continue their four-game series with game three on Saturday . RHP Erick Fedde will pitch for the Chiefs, while RHP Justin Haley will be on the mound for the Red Sox. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m.
