Louisville Bats Notes: May 11

May 11, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Louisville Bats News Release

TONIGHT'S OPENER: The Louisville Bats and Toledo Mud Hens meet in the opening game of a three-game series at Louisville Slugger Field. The two International League West clubs have already met 6 times this season, with Toledo taking two of three from the Bats in Louisville from April 6-8 and in Toledo from April 27-29. The Bats own a 3-6 record in series openers this season after starting off 0-5, with a 2-4 record in the opening games of home series.

AGAINST TOLEDO: Last season, the Bats went just 6-16 against the Mud Hens, 3-9 at home and 3-7 on the road. It marked the second year in a row that Louisville won just 6 games against the Hens, going 6-19 in 2016. The last time LOU had a winning record against Toledo was 2013, when the Bats went 11-10 in the season series. Since the beginning of the 2014 season, Louisville is 30-63 (.323 winning percentage) against Toledo, including this season.

RECORD AFTER 30: The Bats are 11-19 (.367) after 30 games this season, the same record they had last season after 30 contests. In 2016, Louisville was 18-12 (.600) at the 30-game mark.

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS: Tonight the Bats will play their 20th home game of the season, which ties them with the Durham Bulls for most games played at home so far this season. Louisville wraps up a seven-game homestand with three against the Mud Hens, before hitting the road for a season-long 10-game trip to Durham (3), Norfolk (3) and Indianapolis (4).

BOMBS AWAY: Bats pitching allowed 3 home runs in last night's loss, tied for the most surrendered by the staff this season. It had been nearly a month since LOU pitching allowed 3 homers, with April 12's game at Lehigh Valley being the last time it happened. In that game, Matt McBride hit 2 home runs and drove in 6 runs for the IronPigs, including a grand slam. Last night, Jordan Luplow, Eric Wood and Wyatt Mathisen provided the boom for the Indians. Mathisen's pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning off Kyle Crockett was the first pinch-hit HR allowed by the Bats since Braeden Schlehuber 's pinch-hit blast for Gwinnett off LOU reliever Lucas Luetge on May 31, 2017.

BRANDON & D.J.: A pair of Bats rank in the Top 10 in batting this season, with Brandon Dixon (.309) and D.J. Peterson (.308) ranking fifth and sixth in the league in batting average, respectively. While Dixon did not reach with an 0-for-4 night on Thursday, he has still reached base in 24 of 26 games with a plate appearance this season. Peterson went 1-for-4 last night with his second home run of the season, a towering blast to center field in the seventh inning for the Bats' only run of the night.

NO ERROR: Last night was just the third game played at Louisville Slugger Field this season without either team making an error, also occurring on April 22 and 24 vs. Syracuse and Charlotte, respectively. The Bats have made 26 errors this season, tied for the second-most in the IL, trailing only Columbus' 27 errors. As a club, LOU's .976 fielding percentage ranks last in the league, with 26 errors in 1,089 total chances.
