Clippers Drop Game Four on Getaway Day

The Columbus Clippers only managed to score one run in the first three games of their four-game set against the Toledo Mud Hens, but looked as if they had righted the ship early in game four.
Unfortunately for the Clippers, the offensive magic died, and Toledo overcame an early deficit to sweep the series with an 8-4 victory.
The first batter of the game, Brandon Barnes got things going with a homerun for an early 1-0 lead. The Clippers continued to give Toledo starter Chad Bell fits, as Yandy Diaz and Melky Cabrera reached base on a walk and single, respectively. Yu Chang then delivered a double to score Diaz to make it 2-0.

The bats stayed hot in the second when Richie Shaffer added to the Columbus lead with a no-doubt solo shot off Bell to lead off the inning.
Down 3-0, Toledo put up their first run of the game on a Clippers mistake in the bottom of the second.
Jim Adduci led off with a single and proceeded to swipe second base. The throw to second from catcher Eric Haase trickled into centerfield where Barnes fielded it and threw to third, trying to catch the advancing Adduci. His throw escaped the third baseman Diaz, allowing Adduci to score, making it 3-1.
Adduci started things off for Toledo once more in the fourth against Clippers starter Dominic DeMasi. He singled and was scored by Edwin Espinal to bring the Mud Hens within 3-2.
DeMasi's day was done after the RBI single, having tossed three and one-third innings. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, while walking two and striking out one.
Clinging to a 3-2 lead, the wheels fell off for the Clippers in the sixth.
Toledo loaded the bases for Jarrod Saltalamacchia who singled to tie it at 3-3. The next three Mud Hens all had RBI hits. Harold Castro provided a 4-3 lead with a single, Ronny Rodriguez made it 6-3 with a two-run double, and Jason Krizan extended the lead to 8-3 with a two-run single.
Columbus loaded the bases in the ninth inning and Diaz made it 8-4 with a sacrifice fly. Toledo would close it out after that.
The Clippers will travel to Indianapolis tomorrow to begin a three-game series with the Indians. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at Victory Field.
