August 7, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced on Wednesday the acquisition of the first position in the MLS allocation order from the Chicago Fire, along with defender Jorge Corrales, in exchange of midfielder Micheal Azira, a second-round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, and Montreal's current rank in the allocation order.
The allocation order is a mechanism allowing an MLS club to have priority in acquiring a player from the United States national team or a former player making a return to MLS after playing with a club outside of the league, following a transfer of $500,000 or more.
Corrales, 28, joined the Fire in 2018, playing 17 games, including 15 starts, and 1,292 minutes in his first season. This season, he started 13 of the 15 games he's played in, accumulating 1,036 minutes of play. His career began at home, with FC Pinar del Rio, in 2009, playing 80 games until 2015, before representing Miami FC and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in 2016, and the Tulsa Roughnecks in 2017. On the international stage, Corrales has played 34 games with the Cuban national team, taking part in the Concacaf Gold Cup in 2015.
Azira was acquired from the Colorado Rapids on the final day of the transfer window on August 8, 2018, in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. With the Impact, he recorded one goal and one assist in 29 regular-season games, including 24 starts and 2,166 minutes of play.
The club would like to thank Micheal for his contribution in the last year with the Impact and wishes him the best of luck for the rest of his career.
Transaction: the Montreal Impact acquires the first position in the MLS allocation order from the Chicago Fire and defender Jorge Corrales, in exchange of midfielder Micheal Azira, a second-round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, and Montreal's current rank in the allocation order.
