Idaho Edges Utah 2-1
November 3, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Utah Grizzlies 2-1 Monday evening at Maverik Center.
The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead 9:47 into the first period as Matt Berry knocked in a rebound in front with assists going to Jason Binkley and Ryan Misiak.
"I liked a lot of things - I liked our puck movement, we've put a lot more pucks to the net like we talked about," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "There were a lot more second chances. We just need to get hungrier and it's a process."
Utah put up a season-high 47 shots in the game including 17 in the first period and 19 in the second period. They outshot the Steelheads in each period and 47-27 in the game. Idaho goaltender and Dallas Stars prospect Phillippe Desrosiers stopped 46 of 47 shots on the night and 80 of 82 during the weekend set at Maverik Center.
The 1-0 lead lasted for 42:15 before Idaho scored two goals in 2:08 late in the third period and took the 2-1 lead and held on. The Steelheads scored for the first time on their 26th shot of the night on Utah goaltender Chris Rawlings.
Prior to the game, the Grizzlies were assigned goaltender Ryan Faragher and defenseman Eric Knodel from the Anaheim Ducks AHL affiliate in San Diego. The pair will join the team in Anchorage for a three-game road trip that starts Wednesday at Sullivan Arena.
"We're 3-0 with Faragher in the net. He competes every night and gives us a chance to win," said Branham. "Knodel is a big D-man that has good skill, moves the puck well and has a hard shot. Obviously two great additions."
