Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are happy to announce that former Nailers goaltender Mike Condon has been named The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for October.

Condon, 25, became the 53rd Nailer to reach the National Hockey League on October 11th, when he and the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Ottawa Senators, 3-1. Mike followed up his 20-save debut with a 34-save performance 12 days later in a 7-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. He then thwarted 30 shots in a 6-2 win against the Calgary Flames on October 30th, before finally making his home debut at Bell Centre on Sunday, knocking off the Winnipeg Jets, 5-1 with 18 saves. The four wins are already tied for fifth most among Wheeling netminders who have graduated to the NHL, trailing Tomas Vokoun, David Aebischer, Dany Sabourin, and Scott Darling.

The Needham, Massachusetts native is currently in the midst of his third full season as a pro, after playing with the Nailers in 2013-14 and the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2014-15. Condon was named the Wine and Beverage Merchants of West Virginia Defensive MVP Award winner in his lone season with Wheeling, after going 23-12-4, with a 2.18 goals against average, a .931 save percentage, and six shutouts - the single season team record.

Mike currently leads the NHL in goals against average (1.50) and save percentage (.944), and will make a bid for his fifth straight win on Tuesday, in his second tilt against Ottawa. Prior to Condon, the last former Nailer to win MeiGray ECHL Alumnus of the Month was fellow goaltender Scott Darling, who earned the award in October, 2014. Darling and Condon are the fifth and sixth Nailers to take home the honor, following in the footsteps of David Aebischer, Peter Laviolette, Michel Ouellet, and Tomas Vokoun.

The Nailers will conclude their three-game homestand on Friday against the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:35. That game will feature Flat Screen Friday, presented by The Highlands and Bordas & Bordas, Frosty Friday, a Player Poster Giveaway, courtesy of RSQP Print & Design, as well as a canned food drive with Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino, and Racetrack. On November 10th, Wheeling will host its annual Education Day Field Trip game, and on November 14th, it's WVU College Football Night, with Pat White and Steve Slaton meeting fans and signing autographs.

Individual tickets, season tickets, mini plans, and group tickets are on sale now, with prices starting as low as $10 per seat. For tickets and more information, call the Nailers at (304) 234-GOAL or online at wheelingnailers.com.
