Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID - The Idaho Steelheads will celebrate their annual Military Appreciation Night - presented by Sport Clips - this coming Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena, when the Steelheads host the Atlanta Gladiators. During their weekend games on Friday and Saturday, the Steelheads will wear custom patriotic jerseys to honor the local and national branches of the armed services. The team will also take the opportunity to honor members of the US Military during the games at CenturyLink Arena.
Prior to the start of Saturday's game, a joint honor guard consisting of the Army National Guard, Air National Guard, and Air Force from Gowen Field and Mountain Home Air Force Base will conduct honors in remembrance of all military members who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.
Also during Friday and Saturday's games, the St. Luke's Military Jersey auction will afford fans the chance to bid on the game-worn Steelheads' jerseys the players will be wearing. Fans can bid for the jersey of their favorite player and meet that player after the contest to receive the jersey. All proceeds from the auction will benefit St. Luke's Rehabilitation in funding new exercise and wellness opportunities for veterans.
The American flag-themed jersey will pay homage to the five branches of the US Armed Services, with special recognition for Idaho's local service members. On either sleeve, the jersey will have the patches representing the Air Combat Command at Mountain Home Air Force Base and the Air National Guard at Gowen Field.
"I wanted this jersey to represent all branches of the Military, as well as our local bases," said Whitney Asbury, the local graphic designer who created the jersey design. "This is something that anyone can relate to, whether they have served or know someone who has served."
"All the members of the military, past and present, are such an important part of this community." said Eric Trapp, President of the Steelheads. "It is important for our organization that we recognize the outstanding men and women at both Gowen Field and Mountain Home, plus, are able to give back to the veterans by partnering with St. Luke's."
Military Appreciation Night will mark the Steelheads' final home game of November, as the Steelheads depart for a road trip with games against the Orlando Solar Bears, the Florida Everblades, the Colorado Eagles, and the Rapid City Rush.
Tickets are still available for fans who wish to attend either game during Military Appreciation Weekend. Contact the Idaho Steelheads at 208-383-0080 for ticket information or log on to www.idahosteelheads.com.
