Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. - T.J. Trevelyan scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season, but it wasn't enough, as the Bakersfield Condors beat the Ice Dogs 6-4 on Sunday night at the Long Beach Arena.
The Condors scored the first three goals of the game, all in the first period, including two shorthanded goals to give the Condors a 3-0 lead 11:33 into the first period. Starting goaltender Jeff Weber didn't last too long as Head Coach Rick Adduono pulled Weber for Mike Brown after he allowed two goals on five Bakersfield shots. Mark Hurtubise scored his first goal of the season on a one-timer feed from Brandon Schwartz on the power play to get the Ice Dogs on the board before the end of the first period.
Boston Bruin product and Hober Baker Award finalist, T.J. Trevelyan scored after he came out of the penalty box, intercepted a clearing pass in the Condors zone, and beat goaltender Jamie Hodson five hole on a beautiful deek on his back hand to cut the lead in half. Defenseman Tyler Scott scored his second of the game and Sean Venedam made it 5-2 to end the middle frame.
Trailing by three goals, the Ice Dogs came out into the third period in attack mode. T.J. Trevelyan scored on a breakaway from a great feed by Harrison to get the Ice Dogs within two. Ash Goldie's wrister from the right wing circle beat Hodson and the Ice Dogs had all the momentum at 10:06. BUT.... former Ice Dog David Kudelka's 50 foot swing-a-rama wrist shot found the back of the net and the Condor's held on for a 6-4 Condor's victory.
Notes: The Ice Dogs went 1-6 on the PP, the Condors 0-5. The Condors scored two short handed goals in the first period on the first two Ice Dog power plays. The Ice Dogs are the only team without a victory in the ECHL as they are 0-7-0-1. The Ice Dogs out shot Bakersfield 42-17 for the game including 20-3 in the third period. Weber was pulled after Bakersfield scored their second goal at 8:39 of the first period. Alex Kim did not dress for the third straight game. Forward Mark Odut made his Ice Dogs debut and played well.
