Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Las Vegas, NV - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Manitoba Moose and the Vancouver Canucks, tied the series with the Wranglers in an exciting 5-4 Overtime win at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

For the second consecutive night, Forward F.P. Guenette put the Salmon Kings first on the board on the powerplay, and also earned his fourth goal of the season. Defenseman Gustav Engman sparked the play and fed Milan Gajic for the shot, and Guenette was perched on the left of the Wranglers crease to scoop the rebound past Netminder Kevin Nastiuk at 1:43 in the first period.

At 6:14 into the first, Derek Edwardson started the three-goal streak before the intermission. Edwardson surprised Goaltender Julien Ellis with a low shot from the right circle that slipped under the far side pad. Las Vegas added two more goals for the 3-1 lead, within a two minute span. Adam Cracknell fired a shot right from a faceoff in Salmon Kings territory in a 5-on-3 powerplay, and Tyler Mosienko tallied his third goal of the season during another 5-on-3 advantage. The Salmon Kings battled nine Las Vegas powerplays and were outshot 17-9 in the first period.

Victoria was the only team to score in the second period as Pickering, Ontario native Darryl Lloyd notched his third goal of the season. Adam Taylor dug out the puck from along the boards in Las Vegas territory for Lloyd who walked in and backhanded the puck past Nastiuk.

It was a back and forth third period as the Salmon Kings tied the game, took the lead, and then the Wranglers evened the score again. At 6:25 into third, Milan Gajic snuck up from the left point on the Victoria powerplay and blasted a shot past Nastiuk for the 3-3 tie, and to earn his third goal in five games. Nearly three minutes later, veteran Wes Goldie snagged a drop pass from Captain Kiel McLeod and snapped it top shelf for the Victoria 4-3 lead.

Steve Crampton capitalized on a feed from Defenseman Ryan Bonni to tie it up 4-4 with 7:23 left in regulation. Both goaltenders held on in the third stanza to force the Wranglers fourth overtime period of the season.

Shortly after a successful Las Vegas penalty kill in Overtime, Guenette and Forward David Wrigley crossed the centreline in a 2-on-1 breakaway. Guenette passed to Wrigley who rippled the mesh for his first goal of the season.

Final score: 5-4 Victoria, OT

Ellis earned his first win of the season, and Nastiuk suffered his first ECHL loss. Victoria was 2 for 11 with the man advantage and Las Vegas was 2 for 15 on the powerplay. The Wranglers outshot the Salmon Kings 43-37.
