Trenton Devils News Release
READING, PA (November 5, 2006) - Joel Martin turned away 51 of 55 shots in overtime and was a perfect 5-for-5 in the shootout to give the Trenton Titans a 5-4 win over the Reading Royals in front 3,033 at the Sovereign Center.
In a game in which the Royals refused to go away quietly, the Titans took a 4-3 lead at 14:04 while killing off a double minor. Les Haggett gathered a loose puck at his own blueline before racing the length of the ice and dropping a pass for Gregg Johnson to bang home.
Trenton would not be able to skate away with the win in regulation as James Hiebert tipped Reagan Rome's point shot past Martin with just fifteen seconds left in regulation. The marker was Hiebert's second of the match.
During the overtime, the Titans' penalty kill - 18-for-19 in the contest - killed off another double minor, including a two-minute two-man disadvantage to send the game into the shootout.
Former Royal Mike Pandolfo got some revenge on his former mates scoring the lone goal of the shootout in the top half of the third round.
The Titans were able to take a 3-1 lead in the second period as Trenton used three successive power play goals in a span of 2:14 to build the two-goal cushion. Johnson notched his first goal of the game at 10:54 before Scott Sheppard and Benoit Mondou also lit the lamp.
Reading came storming back in the third period outshooting Trenton 23-3 with the help of six power play chances. Shawn Collymore's score on the man-advantage and Hiebert's even-strength goal pulled the Royals into a 3-3 tie.
Trenton went 3-for-11 on the man-advantage and was outshot in the contest 55-28. The victory gives the Titans their third in a row over the Royals and lifts them into a tie for first place in the North Division with the Toledo Storm.
The Trenton Titans will host the Dayton Bombers on Friday, November 10 at 7:30pm at the Sovereign Bank Arena. Tune into 91.3FM-WTSR to listen live to all of the Titans' action.
