Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons win their third straight game on Saturday night as they downed the Long Beach Ice Dogs 4-2 in front of 5,328 fans at Save Mart Center.

The Falcons drew first blood 17:02 into the opening period as Colin Shields blasted a shot past Mike Brown from the right-wing circle for his third goal of the season.

But, the Ice Dogs came back late in the period to tie the game after 20 minutes. Ash Goldie skated the length of the ice, and tucked a shot past Scott Stirling on the far post for a 5-on-3 power-play goal.

Fresno went back on top 16:22 into the second period with its sixth shorthanded goal in just seven games. John Morlang forced a steal in the neutral zone, and moved the puck ahead to Luke Curtin behind the Ice Dogs defense. Curtin deked Brown to the ice and slid a shot past the fallen goaltender for his third goal of the season.

Long Beach answered with a power-play goal just 10 seconds later re-tying the score. Mark Tobin beat Stirling with a slap shot from the left point for his third goal of the season.

Fresno took a 3-2 lead into the third period, scoring with just one minute left in the second. Morlang skated to the hash marks, and beat Brown with a wrist shot over the left shoulder for his fourth goal season.

Shields provided the Falcons with some breathing room scoring his second of the night at 17:11 of the third. Tyler Kindle stole the puck in the neutral zone and sped into the Long Beach zone. His shot was stopped by Brown, but Shields was able to put the puck into the open net to make it 4-2.
