Ice Dogs Down Salmon Kings, Clinch Playoff Berth

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs (41-20-8) got he job done Saturday night, beating the Victoria Salmon Kings (14-51-5) by a score of 5-1 and clinching a Kelly Cup Playoff berth. With three games remaining on the schedule, it is still uncertain where the Ice Dogs will be seeded when the playoffs begin.

The Ice Dogs scored the first four goals of the game, with two by Evan Cheverie and goals by Chris Kenady and Bill Lindsay. Brad Dexter got the Salmon Kings on the board at 2:54 of the third, snapping the perfect game bid by goaltender Olivier Michaud. But Chris Kenady scored again on the power play and the score would remain 5-1 until the final buzzer.

Michaud made stopped 19 of 20 shots for his 17th win of the season. Robert Mundain suffered the loss for Victoria with 28 saves. The Ice Dogs went 3-9 on the power play while stopping all six of Victoria's man advantages. The win gave the Ice Dogs a perfect record of 10-0-0 versus Victoria this season, and they now have 90 points in the West Division.

The Ice Dogs next game is Sunday, April 3rd, when they travel to Fresno to take on the Falcons in the first of a three game series that will wrap up the regular season.
