Alaska Aces News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â Charles Linglet scored a hat trick in the second period as Alaska rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win going away 6-3 Saturday at the Save-Mart Center.
In a first period marred by a combined 13 minor penalties and nine power plays, Fresno struck first, as Terry Marchant ripped a one-timer just inside the right goalpost directly off a face-off to the right of Alaska goalie Matt Underhill at 1:37. Chris Minard scored the first of three power play goals for the Aces by flicking in a rebound of a Ryan Gaucher shot at 4:16, but Fresno captain Dan Tessier reclaimed the lead for the Falcons at 6:34 by ripping a wrist shot by Underhill in a five-on-three situation.
The parade to the penalty box continued in the second period, with 15 minors and another eight power plays, which Alaska used to its full advantage, scoring four unanswered goals, including two more on the power play. Linglet actually began the onslaught with an even strength goal on a backhand wraparound at 5:18, then banked a shot off the pad of Fresno goalie Brett Jaeger less than two minutes later to give the Aces their first lead of the night at 3-2. Scott Gomez broke the game open by picking off a cross-ice pass from Sam Ftorek and going coast-to-coast for a shorthanded breakaway that extended Alaska's lead to 4-2 with 2:28 left in the middle frame. Two minutes later, Linglet polished off the first hat trick of his professional career for a 5-2 bulge heading into the final 20 minutes.
Ex-UAA stand-out Lee Green scored off a face-off 5:36 into the third period, but Fresno would draw no closer, and Chris Heisten's empty-netter with 24.2 seconds left secured a victory that leaves Alaska just one win away from securing its first ever division title. The Aces (43-18-8) wrap up the 2004-05 regular season with three games at Las Vegas next week, starting Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. AST. The series continues at Orleans Arena Friday and Saturday, April 8-9, at 6:00 p.m. AST.
