Augusta Lynx News Release

Rookie Chad Collins made 40 saves to lead the Augusta Lynx to a 4-3 shootout win over the Mississippi Sea Wolves on Sunday afternoon before 2,675 fans at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.

Eric Johansson kicked off the scoring at 5:44 of the first period from Jamie Johnson and Colt King, beating Phil Sauve high glove for a 1-0 Lynx lead. King gave the Lynx a 2-0 lead at the intermission with help from Johnson and John Cronin, tipping in Johnson's point shot on the power play at 14:23.

Mississippi jumped back into the game at 4:01 of the second period when Kerry Ellis-Toddington scored to make it a 2-1 game, but Sean Connolly responded for the Lynx at 18:24 from Ken Magowan and Louis Goulet for a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

With both clubs playing their third game in three days, the question of endurance might have crept into the picture, especially for Mississippi. The Sea Wolves had started on the road Friday in Louisiana, gone to Pensacola Saturday, and Augusta Sunday. But if they were a tired team, it didn't show as Anthony Bataglia and Milt Mastad scored to even the game at 3-3 just 5:37 into the final frame. Despite several chances either way late in the game, there was no further scoring and the contest pushed into overtime.

In OT both goaltenders made three saves to continue the 3-3 deadlock, setting up a shootout. There, Johansson and Goulet would score for the Lynx while Collins stopped all four shooters faced in the extra session to earn the win. Phil Sauve stopped 26 shots for the shootout point.

Augusta will get back to action on Tuesday night against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:05 pm, with the pre-game show starting one half-hour before game time on NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630. Tickets are $10, $13, and $14, and are available through the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE, all TicketMaster locations, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com.
