Lynx Take Six Of Eight Points On Week
April 3, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
Rookie goaltender Chad Collins shone this week, earning his first two ECHL wins to help the Augusta Lynx grab six of a possible eight points.
Tuesday night Augusta kicked off the week with a 5-2 loss to the Inferno in Columbia. Colt King and Doug Wright scored the only goals for the Lynx in the contest. Collins was inserted into the game after the first period, and stopped 13 of 14 shots faced in the game in his first ECHL action, relieving Jason Saal who stopped five shots on eight attempts.
Friday night in Gwinnett, Collins earned the start and stopped 47 shots en route to his first ECHL victory, a 3-2 win over the Gladiators. Eric Johansson scored the game winning goal with an unassisted shorthanded marker in the third period, while Sean Connolly and Jamie Johnson also provided scoring for the Lynx in the game.
Saturday, Saal made 26 saves and stopped all five shooters in a shootout to pace the Lynx past South Carolina 3-2. After falling behind 2-0, Doug Wright and Joe Markusen scored to tie the game and send it to overtime. Louis Goulet scored the only goal for either team in the shootout to hand the Lynx the win.
Sunday afternoon the Lynx battled the Mississippi Sea Wolves to a 4-3 shootout victory. Collins again played well for Augusta, making 40 saves through overtime and stopping four of four in the shootout. Johansson, Johnson, and Connolly provided the scoring for Augusta, and in the extra session Goulet and Johansson sealed the win.
What's Next
Tuesday, April 5th vs. South Carolina
The Lynx and Stingrays bid adieu to the season series with the final of seven contests between the two clubs this year. Jason Saal's miniscule 1.78 GAA and .940 save percentage against the Stingrays has seen him appear in every game thus far in the series. South Carolina's Matt W. Reid leads all scorers with three goals and six points thus far. All time Augusta leads the series 22-19-8.
Friday, April 8th and Saturday, April 9th - Gwinnett
Rounding out the 2004-05 regular season against the Gwinnett Gladiators, the Lynx will kick off a home and home series on Friday night in Gwinnett, followed by the home finale on Saturday night at 7:35 pm. The Lynx have played well in the series this year, rebounding from last year's 1-4-1 record to go 5-2-1 against the Gladiators this year, and reach a 6-6-2 deadlock in the all time series. Three Lynx goaltenders (Saal, Collins, Matus Kostur) have earned wins against the Gladiators this season, while Jamie Johnson's four goals and 12 points leads all scorers in the series. Johnson also has two of the Lynx's four game winning goals in the series this year.
