Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Long Beach, CA – The Victoria Salmon Kings stepped into the heat of the playoff race on Saturday facing the Long Beach Ice Dogs for their final match-up of the season. The Salmon Kings are coming off a 4-1 loss in Las Vegas on Friday night, while the Ice Dogs defeated the West Division leading Alaska Aces 2-1.

The Ice Dogs found themselves on the powerplay early and often while the Salmon Kings looked to find their legs. With Ryan Wade and Kurtis Dulle in the penalty box for hooking and slashing respectively, Long Beach went to work on the special teams and cashed in.

The Salmon Kings down a couple, Chris Kenady notched his 30th of the campaign from Marco Rosa and Nathan Martz at 3:55. Then Bill Lindsay quickly followed up at 4:57, with his 9th from Joe Cardarelli and newcomer Matt Noga.

The Ice Dogs continued in the second period where they left off in the first. At 4:10 of the middle frame Evan Cheverie continued his goal scoring antics against the Salmon Kings his 26th, from Lindsay and Rosa.

Chevarie was not finished though. With just over a minute left in the second period he beat Salmon Kings goaltender Rob Muntain with a knuckler from the slot, assisted by David Walker and Cardarelli and the Ice Dogs took the 4-0 lead to the intermission.

Victoria got some life early in the third. Brad Dexter scored his seventh of the year from the point at 2:54. Dexter's shot was helped from the three Salmon Kings standing in front of Long Beach goalie Olivier Michaud, to make it 4-1.

At 13:55 of the final period Kenady did what Kenady does, just as Chevarie showed what Chevarie does. Speaking of Chevarie it was he who set up Kenady whose shot was on a rope top shelf to extend the Ice Dogs lead to 5-1.

Both Chevarie and Kenady finished the game with two apiece, while Lindsay added a goal and a helper to his stats file. The Salmon Kings travel back to Victoria on Sunday to prepare for the final weekend of the season on Friday April 8th and Saturday April 9th in San Diego against the Gulls.
