Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Philip Humber tossed six shutout innings and the Binghamton Mets never trailed, beating the Portland Sea Dogs 4-1 at NYSEG Stadium Wednesday. Binghamton's won three of four, moving two games behind Portland for the division's final playoff spot.

The B-Mets (68-67) went ahead for good in the first. Wilson Batista began the frame by doubling off Andrew Dobies before moving to third on Chase Lambin's groundout and scoring on a wild pitch.

After that, Dobies (1-2) kept the B-Mets off the board until the sixth, when Lambin singled with two out. Jay Caligiuri then doubled off reliever Edgar Martinez, scoring Lambin, before Jorge Padilla bunted for a hit and Carlos Gomez singled home Caligiuri for a 3-0 B-Mets lead.

Portland (70-65) was unable to do much against Humber (1-2), who picked up his first Double-A win, walking two and striking out six. Eddie Camacho came on to pitch the seventh and allowed a run on Keoni DeRenne's RBI groundout. However, the B-Mets got that run back in the bottom of the frame when Corey Ragsdale doubled, moved to third on an error and scored on Batista's fielder's choice.

Binghamton's Matt Lindstrom struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth for his 10th save in 11 chances.

Thursday, the B-Mets play the final game of their four-game series with Portland. Michael Devaney (4-1, 2.81) gets the start for Binghamton against Devern Hansack (7-7, 3.45) of Portland. Game time is 7:00 from NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
