New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- Brad Hassey's run-scoring single in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 2-1 victory over the Connecticut Defenders in front of 3,854 fans at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium on Wednesday night.

Tim Olson (2-for-5, R) led off the bottom of the 11th with a double to right field off losing pitcher Joe Bateman (4-6). Tony Miller sacrificed Olson to third base. Bateman induced a come-backer off the bat of Ryan Klosterman for the second out and intentionally walked Dustin Majewski before Hassey, who entered the game for Manny Mayorson in the fifth inning, stroked the walk-off single to right.

Justin James (2-0) earned his second victory over Bateman in three nights, allowing two hits in two shutout innings.

Connecticut (62-74) took a 1-0 lead against Jesse Litsch in the top of the second inning when Dan Ortmeier (3-for-3, BB, R) tripled and scored on Brian Horwitz's ground out.

Litsch went seven innings, allowing one run on five hits with six strikeouts and no walks.

New Hampshire (65-72) tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the third inning against James Garcia when David Smith singled home Dustin Majewski with two outs.

Garcia allowed one run on six hits in 5.1 innings, recording seven strikeouts and walking one.

The Fisher Cats won their fourth straight game, knocked off the Defenders for the seventh consecutive time and made it 11 wins in their last 14 games.

New Hampshire wraps up the home portion of its season when left-hander Ricky Romero (1-7, 5.13) pitches against Connecticut right-hander Jesse Floyd (4-13, 3.84) Thursday night at 6:35pm. Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy will call the game on www.nhfishercats.com starting at 6:25pm.
