
Fisher Cats down Defenders in 11 innings

The Connecticut Defenders scored first for the third time in a row, but also lost by one run for the third time in a row to the New Hampshire Fishercats in 11 innings by a 2-1 score.
In the 2nd inning, Dan Ortmeier, who had three, hits and a walk led off with a triple and scored on a Brian Horwitz RBI ground out. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Fishercats tied the game on a Dave Smith RBI single. Neither team would score until the 11th inning. The Defenders got three solid relief innings from recently assigned Osiris Matos.
In the bottom of the 11th, Joe Bateman allowed a lead off double to Tim Olson. Olsen then went to third base with one out on a sacrifice bunt by Tony Miller. Bateman got the second out without allowing the run, but a Ron Hassey single brought home the game winning run for a 2-1 final score.
The Connecticut Defenders will try to avoid the sweep on Thursday when they send right-hander Jesse Floyd (4-13) to the hill. The Fishercats will counter with left-hander Ricky Romero (1-7). The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
