Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, January 2)... Winnipeg's own Jacob Micflikier broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second period to lift the Rochester Americans to a 2-1 victory over the Manitoba Moose tonight in the first game of back-to-back tilts at the MTS Centre. The win was Rochester's first against Manitoba this season, snapping a four-game skid to the Moose as it improved to 10-22-0-3.

Stefan Meyer powered the Amerks with a two-point performance (1+1), while goaltender Mike Brodeur stopped 23 of 24 shots to earn third star honors. Brodeur has now started 11 of the last 12 games for Rochester.

Michel Ouellet scored Manitoba's lone goal as Karl Goehring had 17 saves in the losing effort for the hometown Moose.

Ouellet opened the scoring at the 10:04 mark of the first period to give the Moose the early 1-0 lead. Ouellet's ninth of the season was assisted by Shaun Heshka and Jason Krog.

Rochester tied the game at 1-1 in the closing ticks of the opening frame as Stefan Meyer netted his team-leading eighth goal of the season, with assists going to Drew Larman and Randall Gelech.

Micflikier, playing in his first game in his hometown in close to 11 years, ended a 1-1 stalemate on the powerplay at 12:07 of the second stanza to give the Amerks their only lead of the game. Meyer picked up his second point of the night with an assist on the eventual game-winning goal. Veteran defenseman Cory Murphy, in just his first game with the Amerks as part of his conditioning stint, also recorded an assist on the play en route to first star honors.
