
P-Bruins Defeat Bears 7-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hershey Bears 7-2 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Zach Hamill, Martins Karsums, Wacey Rabbit, Peter Schaefer, Jeremy Reich, Brad Marchand and Matt Marquardt. The first place P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday, January 4 versus the Houston Aeros at 7:05 p.m. for Kid's Hat Night.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 advantage at the 8:42 mark of the opening period. Reich dumped the puck into the zone and Jordan Knackstedt was behind the net to play it. He dropped the puck off to the side of the net and Hamill picked it up and scored his fourth goal of the season. Providence went ahead 2-0 at the 11:35 mark. Marchand put a shot on net and the rebound landed on the stick of Karsums, who tallied his 14th goal of the season. The P-Bruins took a 3-0 lead while on a 5-on-3 power play at the 19:42 mark. Jeff Penner sent the puck into the corner for Karsums and he found Rabbit in the opposite corner. Rabbit put a shot on net and the puck went off Hershey net minder Michal Neuvirth and into the net for his sixth goal of the season. Providence went into the first intermission leading 3-0.
Providence opened up a 4-0 advantage with a power play goal at the 2:51 mark of the second period. Karsums worked the puck out of the corner to Marchand. He left the puck in front of the net for Schaefer, who tallied his fifth goal of the season. The P-Bruins Reich scored on a penalty shot at the 14:26 mark putting the puck through the five-hole of Neuvirth for his ninth goal of the season to give the P-Bruins a 5-0 lead. Hershey got on the board at the 16:12 mark of the period. Francois Bouchard netted his ninth goal of the season, with Oskar Osala and Chris Bourque getting the assists. Providence finished up the scoring in the period with a goal at the 19:03 mark. Schaefer fed the puck to Marchand who was parked outside the crease and Marchand tallied his sixth goal of the season. Providence went into the second intermission with a 6-1 lead.
In the third period, the P-Bruins took a 7-1 advantage at the 1:01 mark. Marquardt scored unassisted from the right boards, his fourth goal of the season. Hershey finished off the scoring at the 15:13 mark. Bouchard netted his second goal of the game with Andrew Joudrey and Mathieu Perreault getting the assists. Providence went on to the 7-2 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 28 of 30 shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Neuvirth made 29 saves for the Bears. Â The P-Bruins were 2-for-8 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins hit the road Saturday versus the Springfield Falcons at 7:00 p.m. at the MassMutual Center. The P-Bruins return home to The Dunk Sunday against the Houston Aeros at 4:05 p.m. for a Family Game. Purchase one ticket, hot dog and soda for one low price.
