Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Brian Elliott stopped 21 shots in his second shutout of the season as the Binghamton Senators beat the Houston Aeros 4-0 Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The B-Sens killed off all five Aeros' power plays to secure their first franchise victory against the West Division squad.
Center Josh Hennessy started the B-Sens scoring drive during a power play with 59 seconds remaining in the first period, banking a pass from defenseman Mattias Karlsson off Aeros goalie Nolan Schaefer's left calf. The helper gave Karlsson a team-high 20 assists on the season.
At the 6:43 mark in the second, right wing Ryan Shannon helped center Marc Cavosie notched his second goal of the season, after Houston turned over the puck deep in its zone. With skaters from both teams chasing the puck behind the net toward the right-wing circle, Shannon broke up an Aeros' pass, flipping the puck to an awaiting Cavosie, who in turn skated through traffic, faked right before following through with a wrister to the open left-side of the net.
Nearly eight minutes later, center Peter Regin joined the frenzy, tapping in a deflected shot by left wing Denis Hamel. Hamel took aim near the blue line, drawing Schaefer toward the top of the crease. Schaefer deflected the puck over himself, landing inches from Regin and the goal line.
Shannon ended the goal-fest with an empty-net short-handed goal with less than two minutes of play after taking a chip shot from top of the Aeros' zone in an attempt to clear the puck.
