Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads suffered their second straight lopsided defeat at the hands of the visiting Greenville Drive Tuesday night, as the 'Dads allowed five home runs en route to a 16-4 loss at L.P. Frans Stadium.
One night after allowing a season high 13 runs & 16 hits in a 13-2 defeat, the Crawdads were again roughed up by the Drive with 16 runs given up on 19 hits. Eight of the 19 hits allowed went for extra bases, including five home runs. The 'Dads entered the series with a league-best 9-2 record and a +28 run differential before dropping the last two contests 19-6.
Hickory jumped out to the initial lead in the 1st, when Eric Jenkins singled to right, stole second base, and came in to score on a 2-out, RBI single from Dylan Moore for a 1-0 Crawdads advantage. Greenville responded in the top of the 2nd with the first of their five long balls, as Joseph Monge roped a 2-run blast to left to put the Drive on top 2-1.
The 'Dads came back with a tally of their own in the home half of the frame, with a leadoff double by Eduard Pinto and an eventual RBI groundout from Ti'Quan Forbes tying the contest at 2-2.
Greenville took the game over from there though with 10 unanswered runs to take a 12-2 lead. The Drive scored twice in the 3rd, used a solo homer from Michael Chavis and a 2-run shot by Kyri Washington as part of a five-run 5th, and plated three more tallies in the 6th to take a 10-run advantage.
The Crawdads got back on the board in the 7th when LeDarious Clark reached on a fielding error by second baseman Luis Alejandro Basabe, moved to second on a wild pitch from reliever Jeffry Fernandez, and eventually scored on a fielding error by first baseman Josh Ockimey to make the score 12-3. The Drive quickly answered in the top of the 8th with their fourth home run of the night, this time a solo shot to right off the bat of Luis Alexander Basabe to push the score to 13-3.
Hickory brought home one last run in the bottom of the 8th when Pinto doubled to right and came home on an RBI sacrifice fly from Frandy De La Rosa to make the deficit 13-4, but Greenville had one last home run in them as Austin Rei launched a 3-run blast to left in the top of the 9th for the final 16-4 score.
Drive starter Logan Boyd (2-1) earned the win with two runs allowed on 8 hits and 3 strikeouts over 6 innings pitched. Brett Martin (1-1) took the loss for the Crawdads with six runs given up on eight hits, two walks, and 8 Ks during his 3.1 IP.
Pinto paced the 'Dads offense for the second straight evening, finishing 3-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Andy Ibanez also had a multi-hit game going 3-5, while Tyler Sanchez finished 2-5 with a double.
The Crawdads (9-4) will look to salvage the final game of the series against the Drive (9-4) Wednesday morning, with a first pitch time of 10:30 am.
