PREVIEW: The Shorebirds host the Greensboro Grasshoppers in game two of a three game series at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Greensboro is the Class A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins. The Shorebirds snapped a four game losing streak with a 4-3 win over Hagerstown Sunday afternoon, but coughed up a 4-0 lead in the eighth inning Monday night and lost 5-4 in extra innings. With the win, Greensboro pulled even with the Shorebirds in the Northern Division standings. Tonight will be the second match up of the season between the two teams.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Left-hander Gabriel Castellanos takes the ball for the Grasshoppers this evening. Castellanos is a 22-year old Dominican-born pitcher who has found early season success. He is 1-0 with one earned run allowed in his first 10 innings of the season (two starts), while racking up 12 strikeouts compared to just two walks. Castellanos signed an international free agent contract with the Miami Marlins organization and made his debut in the Dominican Summer League in 2011 as a 17-year old. Tonight marks his 66th appearance as a professional and his 53rd game started.
ROSTER OVERVIEW: Delmarva opens the year with each of the Orioles' First Round Draft picks last summer in shortstop Ryan Mountcastle and outfielder D.J. Stewart. According to Baseball America, the Shorebirds have five of the top 30 prospects in Baltimore's farm system on their roster. Aside from Mountcastle and Stewart, pitchers Ofelky Peralta (#17) and Garrett Cleavinger (#26), along with catcher Alex Murphy (#27), are among the O's most highly-touted farmhands. RHP's Christian Turnipseed and Ryan Meisinger have both posted solid numbers as well.
