Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC - The Good: Brendan Rodgers- Belted a pair of two-run Home Runs on Tuesday night. One came in the bottom of the first inning to give Asheville a 2-0 lead. The Home Run was off Lexington starter Corey Ray and traveled 428 feet as it soared over the left field wall. The second blast was to straight away centerfield in the bottom of the eighth. It brought Asheville to within one run.
More Good: Starting pitcher Jack Wynkoop- Asheville's lefty pitched four scoreless innings to begin the game and tallied five strikeouts in those innings. Asheville's offense- The Tourists collected a season-high 15 hits and scored nine runs.
The Bad: Asheville once again ran into outs on the bases- Yonathan Daza was tagged out between second and third base in the bottom of the first inning after doubling to right field while Brian Mundell was standing at third. Sam Hilliard found himself caught in a rundown between first and second in the sixth inning after Chris Rabago had appeared to successfully steal third base.
More Bad: The Tourists blew two leads when they were ahead by multiple runs. Asheville led 2-0 only to see Lexington score five runs in the fifth. The Tourists battled back to take a 7-5 lead heading to the eighth, but once again the Legends put together a five-run frame.
And More Bad: Missed Opportunities- The Tourists could have put this game away early. Asheville had runners at first and second with no outs in the second inning and did not score. Asheville had runners at first and third in the third inning and did not score.
The Ugly: Asheville committed four errors in the game- Three of them came in Lexington's five-run fifth. A sure fire double-play ball bounced off Carlos Herrera's chest. Wynkoop made two throwing errors to first base. Eight Legends batters came to the plate in the inning, five scored, and only two balls left the infield.
More Ugly: The top of the eighth- Daniel Koger entered with a two-run lead. The first batter dropped down a bunt single. The next batter, Josh Banuetos, hit a two-run Homer. Cody Jones followed with a single. Jecksson Flores then tripled home Jones. The fifth batter of the inning, D.J. Burt, clubbed a two-run Home Run. Ugly.
We end with some good news: It is only 13 games into the season. There is a lot of baseball to be played. The Tourists certainly have the talent to compete in this league evidenced by the fact that none of their ten losses have been by more than four runs. Also, tomorrow is a brand new day. Asheville will look to exact revenge on the Legends at 7:05pm.
