Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - A four goal first period explosion was too much for the Cincinnati Cyclones to overcome in a 6-2 loss to Wheeling tonight. Tobias Holm's first period hat trick and 27 saves by David Brown were enough to give the Nailers the triumph.

Wheeling exploded for four first period goals in opening a 4-1 edge at the first intermission. Rob Sirianni picked up his ninth goal of the season at 8:20. Tobias Holm netted his fifth of the season at 12:59 with a power play score. Cincinnati dented the scoreboard at 15:00 when on a power play, Jimmy Kilptrick tallied his fifth of the season from Mark Van Guilder and Kyle Rank. Holm would complete his hat trick with goals at 15:25 and at 19:51 on the power play. It was the fourth time this season that the Cyclones surrendered four goals in a frame and the third time they have been victimized by the Nailers.

Wheeling opened up a four goal edge in the second period when Sirianni collected his second of the night and tenth of the campaign at 4:44. Cincinnati closed the deficit to 5-2 at 12:19 when Michael Cohen registered his sixth goal from Ryan Toomey and Barret Ehgoetz.

The Nailers closed out the scoring when Bryan Ewing picked up his eighth goal at 4:31 of the third period.

David Brown improved his record to 4-0-2 with a 27 save performance. Martin Houle stopped two shots and dropped to 6-4-1 on the year. Kyle Gajewski finished up the game for the Cyclones, stopping sixteen shots.

With the crowd of 2020 in for the annual Teddy Bear Toss Game, the Cyclones are averaging 25.0 percent more fans than 2007-08 through 14 home games. That is the third-largest improvement from last year through 14 games of any professional hockey team in North America (Tulsa-CHL is up 43.3% and Springfield-AHL is up 28.5%). Last year, Cincinnati's attendance improved 36.8 percent over 2006-07-the biggest increase in all of professional hockey.

The Cyclones are now 11-10-4 on the season, while Wheeling is 13-3-5. Cincinnati hosts Charlotte Saturday night at 7:30pm. It is David Desharnais Bobblehead Night, with the first 3000 fans through the turnstiles receiving this Kelly Cup championship souvenir.
